Personal Investments • Larry Swedroe on Reinsurance

The alts Larry has been recommending lately, e.g. discussed in this thread, all seem too expensive to me to consider. But the reinsurance I don't understand why it's considered an alt. What exactly does Larry mean by reinsurance? If I google reinsurance, 20 or so large public companies pop up (Munich Re, Swiss Re, Loyds, Berkshire Hathaway, etc), all of which I already own at their market weight through my favorite total market type index fund. I already get whatever diversification benefits there are from the reinsurance sector without having to invest in an expensive interval fund. Does Larry mean some kind of special reinsurance type of security that the big companies don't already deal in?
