OK, I want to post an update and ask for some help.
So, we got the paper certificate back from Lord Abbett and it had been marked as if it had been turned in, then the paper had to be made good again. Kind of like they cancelled the check, then said, oops, we are making the check good again.
Fidelity had a tough time locating things at first. We filled out several forms such as one and the same forms, turned them into our Fidelity branch and now see some shares credited to the account.
In 1957, $10 worth was purchased, or eight shares at $1.25 each.
This is what is credited to our account: LAFFX.https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/LAFFX
Going to the monthly chart viewing the maximum range shows growth of this fund from 1950 to present represents a whopping 180,000% growthhttps://www.morningstar.com/funds/xnas/laffx/chart
An internet search suggests the average market return since 1957 is 10.5%
At that rate, the value of the investment today could be more than 8,000
Why does my account balance only reflect 8 shares at yesterdays closing price of 17.73 for a total value of about $142?
How can I argue the value of this investment over time really ought be more?
