Here's hoping things work out for you dealing with that situation!



And to bring it back to OP, they wrote:
My wife's parents are getting older and have not saved much for retirement.

I don’t want to give them a lump sum because they would spend it quickly.

Continuing to work might be a serious good thing since they need the money and work fills the time.

If they have any sort of "spending issue/s," that should be considered. Are they spending in an addiction sort of way? (Gambling, shopping, etc.)

If they haven't asked for help in any way, how will your kindness go with them?
