Investing - Theory, News & General • What do you think is the bare minimal you need to know

What do you think is the bare minimal you should know as a investor? The ideas that pop into my heads are:
  1. Living below your means and save some of your income.
  2. How compounding works
  3. How stocks and bonds work at a higher level and their short and long term behavior.
There are some people who don't have to know any of this but can have a great retirement:
* A lottery winner, celebrity, wealthy heir, or patent holder with a big stash and an honest financial planner.
* Those who earn a lot and contribute to SS and a pension.
* Those with employers who automatically enroll their employees in a retirement plan, while increasing contributions 1% a year until they reach the max. Combine that with SS.
* Those who grew their own business and sold it for a large sum when it was time to retire. [I know someone like that.]
* Someone who married royalty and now lives in "Government housing".
