Yes, I have the contract. This sounds like a bit of confusion on Athene’s part, but likely innocuous.FYI:
I recently purchased an annuity from Athene with ACH transfer. I could see the money was withdrawn from my bank, and when I logged in to the Athene website I could see that the contract was active.
Nevertheless, I received a subsequent email, purportedly from Athene, with the following instructions:
"Thank you for enrolling in electronic delivery of your Athene annuity documents. Please promptly access the link to complete the electronic delivery of your 201762 - Producer Authorization Confirmation.
You will receive a second email which will include a passcode to securely access your contract. Please note, you may also use the last four of your social security number and date of birth to log in.
https://www.firelighteapp.com/j2qZn"
I opened the link which asked for the last four digits of my SS# and my birthdate, and then took me to a page asking for my checking account number and routing number. I thought that was curious because I had already provided that information on the initial application, and Athene had already used that information to take my money. Therefore, I closed the page without providing any more information.
A day or two later I received a letter in the mail, again purportedly from Athene, which said, "Your application has been reviewed and we are waiting on the initial premium payment(s) or outstanding requirements before the contract can be issued. Please contact your producer to discuss the outstanding requirements." It provided a phone number to call.
So I sent an email to Athene and received this response:
"I sincerely apologize for any frustration with the situation that you described. We show that your contract is fully issued and funded, as you described, and do not show a record of the letter that you described following the email that you sent. Did the email that you received come from a no-reply@firelightapp.com?"
I responded that the email did come from no-reply@firelightapp.com, but my reply was after business hours, and I have not received a second reply from Athene. I checked the phone number in the letter against the Athene website contact information, and the number is legit, so I presume this was not a scam, but it's odd that the Athene rep has no record of the email or the subsequent letter.
I’d suggest giving them a call on Monday to iron this out real time.
Have you already successfully downloaded your contract? If so, that’s a positive thing. If not, you’ll want to make sure that you can do that when you further correspond with Athene.
