We are making "enough," and my wife has yearly raises incoming as she climbs the salary ladder. It really comes down to are you making "enough". If so, there is no way I would take the new job unless it paid double! Thanks to everyone for the feedback!
I'm a heavy lean to not bother applying. Some more info:
The new job would be more stressful, the flip side is that it could be more professionally fulfilling. I'd be going from a MS music director in a laid back blue collar town to a HS music director in a town that demands excellence from their children (and the school staff).
The extra money would probably go into retirement funds so I'm not paying close attention to the tax implications.
Still leaning on just giving it a hard pass.
The only time I would think about taking it is if your pension is based off of the highest earning X number of years. Then I would be open to taking the job for the last X number of years.
Good luck!
The pension is based off of the highest earning last 3 years, but you can't control when opportunities arise!
