Marlowe 2022 staring Liam Neeson who makes a really good older version of Phillip Marlowe. It even had Bernie Ohls, a recurring character of Chandler's Marlowe books.
It is based on the Raymond Chandler character but not on any specific Chandler book. Even so, it felt like it could have been written by Chandler himself. Instead, it is based in the John Banville book The Black-Eyed Blonde. I am not at all familiar with Banville.
I thought the movie was great. I was hoping it was based on a Chandler book and that there might be more in the works. That doesn't seem likely, though. Mostly mediocre reviews. Please ignore them. None of those reviewers seemed able to enjoy the movie on its own terms. They wanted it to be something else.
