Personal Finance (Not Investing) • What if I’m Not dead but not really with it anymore?

I'm grateful for threads like these because they discuss many different scenarios that could/will occur, even though we can't follow most of the suggestions.

I am 83 and DW is 79, but we can't do a CCRC because DW has celiac disease and must eat gluten free food prepared in a gluten free kitchen, which greatly limits the CCRC possibilities. Also, she has a large sewing room with custom sewing furniture that she uses daily. We have a small dog who enjoys and uses our large yard by himself and for playdates with a friend's dog. We can't give up these benefits because someday we will probably need care that we can't receive in our house. Our portfolio is adequate to provide a lot of in home care. We have already hired a handyman, a house cleaner and a landscaper/lawn mower.

Fortunately, we are both in good health with no physical or cognitive problems on the immediate horizon.

We don't have a relative or friend who is competent to manage our finances, so we are simplifying as quickly as possible. We are investigating an eldercare attorney's practice that manages wills and trusts and care, though we just did new wills, healthcare proxies and POA's.

Bottom line, we are just going enjoy where e are now and trust to providence for the future. We hope and pray that in the event of a catastrophic event or gradual decline we will have enough time to make necessary changes and that one of us will have the ability to do what is needed.
