Great explanation, as always, covering all the nuances and details that is your wont, TedSwippet ! Truly appreciated !
My memory isn't great but I have screenshots of this 'switch' feature in HL and Fidelity UK so I looked them up. But I guess it is the illusion of instant switches as you wrote. That makes sense ! I was also spoiled by Vanguard USA (where I have an account directly with Vanguard) which also allows such a feature.
Agree that shortest time out of the market is best. I was disappointed when customer support at Interactive Investors said it would take 3 to 5 days. Apparently Vanguard takes couple of days to get back to them, or, so the rep claimed. Doing it in tranches is a good idea, yes... One I will try in future ..
Anyway I will watch out. Who knows, it may not take 3 days as they claim. I placed the order today (Wed) at 14:00 BST. I wanted a window when both US and UK markets are open. Perhaps thats not important for OEIC but may be important for ETF to keep the bid ask spread as low as possible.
Oh well. I'll just wait it out.
Thanks again for such a thorough response, worthy of a blog in itself.
Cheers !
