Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Stated Deductible v. Actual Deductible (Home Insurance)

To me, if my stated deductible is $2,000, I likely wouldn’t make a claim unless the loss exceeded $10,000, but if my stated deductible was $5,000, I probably wouldn’t make a claim unless the loss exceeded $15,000.

I don't understand this thinking. If you can afford to cover a 10K loss, then raise your deductible to that amount. Why carry a 2K ded. you are never going to use?
