Just wanted to add that all the ongoing AI work might also mean that learning languages for functional usage will probably decline.

I remember when I was last in China on a solo backpacking trip, the young people I met had translation apps on their phones that they used to communicate with me. They would speak Chinese into the phone, and the phone would spit out English at me. I'd speak English into the phone, and it would spit Chinese back out at them. There were some hilarious errors, but I wouldn't be surprised if in five or ten years, something like the "universal translator" in the Star Trek universe becomes a reality.
