The Schwab funds are fine but I don't think any of your conerns about ETFs, sans maybe bid/ask spread (mutual funds pay them too, they're just hidden from you), are actually true. Most brokerages let you buy ETFs in dollars vs shares and there's no need to specify whether or not to reinvest dividends at every purchase. I've never experienced any of the other problems despite regularly buying ETFs for well over a decade, either. Certainly not with mainstream options like these. ETFs are just better.
