I don't understand how this happened either.
We have two college age kids that are on our marketplace plan, husband on Medicare. Neither one will be in school full-time next year, so they will not be our dependents for taxes.
However, and you can find it on healthcare.gov website, your child can stay on your marketplace plan until age 26.

If child is still your tax dependent, he should be on your plan. They should not have pushed him off of your plan.
Look at the very last sentence in this section.

If your child is not your dependent, he could still get his own plan, but would be paying full price (no subsidies). But he should still be able to be on your plan as he's 18.
The application for healthcare.gov is just not up-to-date. It does not distinguish between tax dependent and health insurance dependent. It only asks about tax dependents; it's a mess.
Your representative should be able to help you with this. You'd be surprised what they can get done.
Also, please consider filing a complaint with your state's Department of Insurance.
