For the original poster's questions, also consider the used market, especially for full EV's. Amazing the deals you can get out there right now.
As far as calculating your usage, our Taycan is probably about the least efficient (but most fun) BEV out there, and it averages 2.8 miles per KWH in our usage patterns.
If you daily it in stop and go traffic, it goes up to 3.4 miles per KWH. Road trips average about 3 miles per. So worst case depending on what BEV you get, you're looking at 4,000miles/3miles per KWH, or around 1,333 KWH per year.
Charging is easy, hardwire in a Level 2 charger from ChargePoint for $650 on a 50 amp circuit, set it to deliver 40 amps (or pick any of the 10's of other reputable EVSE's) and you're good to go. Hardwiring is good because you eliminate the risk of overheating/fire on a 50 amp socket and plug. Everyone worries about moving it to another house if you move, but that's easy to do even hardwired. Just have an electrician do it for $600-1,000 if it's a simple install with the panel right there in your garage (and you don't want to pull permits and do it yourself to code.)
