We put in a new gas furnace (Bryant 986TC) & heat pump (Bryant 284ANV, variable speed) last year. The house is single level 2300^2 ft.

It switches to heat pump for heating above 45F outside and uses gas heating below 40F outside, otherwise it decides.

It is very efficient and Quiet.

That's a cold climate heat pump. I'm curious, what was the thinking behind purchasing a backup furnace and having such a high temperature cutover? That HP should work very well at temperatures much lower than 40F. Do you have extremely high electricity prices?
