I think you already know the answer by the way you phrased the question. By describing your expectation as pessimistic, you are admitting that you are holding a minority view.I would like this thread to be focused on discussing how reasonable or unreasonable it is to pessimistically expect that nominal bonds underperform inflation, and then the direct consequences of that expectation.
I am a firm believer in nominal bonds and hold several such bond funds. If I wanted additional inflation protection, I would use TIPS, not Series I Bonds.
