Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Any reason NOT to become a citizen?

I grew up in the UK, but have been living in the U.S. for over 30 years. Always thought I might retire back in the U.K., but realistically that’s becoming less likely for a variety of reasons. I would like to spend more time there in the future though.

So, I think it’s finally time I got around to becoming a U.S. citizen. Should be straightforward, as I’ve had a green card for 20 years and been married to a U.S. citizen for 22 years.
OP: I find myself in a similar position. Green card for 20+ years, looking to split time in retirement between Europe / UK and US (now-adult kids born here). And yes, for us too it looks like becoming US citizens is easier, and less costly long term, than expatriation. It’s a truly bizarre situation.
