Personal Consumer Issues • Converting an outside light to dusk-to-dawn

I have all of our outside front lights on smart switches (Lutron Caseta) hooked up to Apple HomeKit, with an automation that turns them on 30 minutes before sundown, and then either off at a set time or via a scene command (I could do it until dawn, just personal preference not to leave them on all night).

I wouldn’t recommend this solely for dusk/dawn feature, but it’s convenient if you’re doing smart switches anyway.
This is what I have in place for many lights (inside and out). And I believe some of Lutron’s smart switches do not require a neutral wire.

It also allows for a lot of flexibility. For example, rather than keeping my porch light on all night, a motion detector located near the beginning of a walkway triggers the Lutron switch to turn the light on. This helps eliminate light pollution.
