I would do 80% of the target date fund you choose and 20% in the Vanguard Small Cap Value fund. 40% in international is fine. There is a lot of recency bias with people wanting to overweight the US equity market. You can see the below link explaining using a target date fund with small cap value. Here are the full fund choices: https://imgur.com/a/RbT2ETB
For the longest time, I’ve just stuck my money in the Fidelity 2065 TDF. I’d prefer to have a traditional 3 fund portfolio, but with a 0.06% ER I thought it was fine and low touch.
Anything on this list that beats it? I’d prefer less than 10% in bonds, but realize that it’s probably not a huge deal.
I’m in my early 30s and have a traditional 3 fund portfolio in my roth IRA, with 4-5% in bonds.
Would rolling my own portfolio be a better move? One consisting of:
state street 500 index, vanguard mid cap index, nuveen small cap index or vanguard small cap index, iShares MSCI EAFE international
Thanks for any help!
