Investing - Theory, News & General • When do you change your stance?

The question is when do you stick to your guns and when do you change? What is your thought process?
I maintain my investment philosophy until I receive new information that I have vetted personally (i.e. I trust) or have reached a new milestone in my life.

In practice, what has this meant?

I was 100% equity until a few years before considering retirement. While that was a great decision for the first 25 years of my investing, I realized excess downside potential in my portfolio as I approached retirement could negatively impact my spending in retirement. So, I moved some money to less volatile fixed income assets.

I purchased a ladder of TIPS after understanding the insidious nature of inflation and that TIPS real returns were very attractive.

I started investing a significant portion of my equity allocation to international when I realized I likely had "enough" and that international might dampen future volatility of my equity allocation.

I expect to learn from the good people on this forum and tweak the edges of my portfolio. We shall see. Image may be NSFW.
