Been on GEHA HDHP for a few years now and love it. Wish I would have done it sooner.

1 - Yes, the $2000 passthrough goes to HSA Bank and you can put the rest in Fidelity. You can also open up an HSA for you and put $1000 in it since you are 55. There are some threads here about transferring from HSA Bank to Fidelity. I'm going to start doing that twice a year.

2- You should be good. FWIW, we meet our deductible in the first couple of months. We just had our largest expense in a while, daughter spent 2 days in the hospital. For an $11K charge, we were responsible for about $650 after the negotiated rate. So it would take a good bit to get you to the $12k.
