The Heat&Glo direct vent insert that we have does require power for the remote to light the fire, but there is a place to insert batteries. We have never tried that. Our insert provides heat to the room just by convection around the insert. There is an optional fan, but we didn't want any fan noise. There is also a light to provide more of a glo to the logs which may not work in a power failure.I am not familiar with most of the options mentioned so this might not be a factor but if any of them use electricity to power a fan or control panel the that would be a negative because it could not be used in a power outage. We have used ours several times during a prolonged power outage.
