My reply to Jimkinney was repeated as a reply to you due to strange technical issues with the Bogleheads server right now, best I can tell.To get a general idea of the real yield of a TIPS fund on any given market day, wouldn't one look at the real yields of individual TIPS trading on the secondary market?
Any fund has a certain average duration and average effective maturity that is published. On any given day wouldn't the real yield of the fund be about the same as the real yield of an individual TIPS with the same duration/maturity? (Of course, subtract out the expense ratio of the fund.)
