One thing I've found really enlightening is being able to easily select different asset allocations and see how it influences suggested withdrawal and required flexibility. I understand the concepts at a high level, but being able to put some numbers to the tradeoff between having a higher suggested withdrawal versus not requiring as much flexibility has helped me think in a more data driven manner than vibes.
Even better, data vs vibes is finally allowing me to give DW more satisfactory answers to questions like:
- What do we get for working another year?
- If we retired now, what base standard of living can we rely on?
- How much longer do we need to work so that we can continue our current standard of living?
- What is the exchange rate between more discretionary travel vs more expensive housing?
