The actionable takeaway here is that there is actually a good reason to track your portfolio on a regular basis - identifying the "high water mark" of your portfolio gives you the option to calculate the SWR starting at that point.
Merry Christmas, but I don’t see the logic here. I understand your point, but don’t see how your portfolio will be obedient to this 4% “rule” whether you high water mark it or not. That’s the problem with some rules; they are not rules.
