I write this sitting in the Ethan Allen arm chair we bought in 2000 soon after we bought our first house, with the coffee table and sofa we bought at the same time right in front of me, the armoire in another room, and the dining table we bought 8 or 9 years later in the dining room. All this furniture has held up surprisingly well - it's survived one child birth to college, several cats, several moves, and pretty much daily use of the couch. The wood pieces look almost brand new (although the coffee table drawers are starting to fall apart). The arm chair is on its last legs and the sofa is getting kind of misshapen - but it's still very comfortable and we have no plans to get rid of it any time soon.
