I do this periodically to see if my current reality somewhat falls in line with what was forecast.

What I find when I compare pencil and paper numbers to software designed for this purpose, is that they line up pretty close, and neither one is spot on. And since you use the same information for both, why wouldn't they be similar. So 90% of it is done with pencil and paper in just a couple of minutes.
