I currently contribute to a 401k at work and it is administered through Empower. I max it out every year and I will continue to do so in the coming year(s). The balance in the 401k is around $250k. I also have a traditional IRA with Vanguard that I had opened years ago (I used to contribute to it before my income was above the deduction limit). The fees for the IRA are much less than the 401k fees through Empower.
Can I roll over the 401k balance into my traditional IRA without issue for the purpose of lower fees?
I am not leaving my work and I will continue to contribute to the 401k next year(s). I am in state of Nevada and do not plan to tap into my 401k or IRA for a decade or more.
