Were you able to do this using just the TIAA website or did it require talking to TIAA CS and/or filling in forms to be submitted via email? I would like to convert some of my TIAA traditional 403b account to Roth but the online form at TIAA requires that the money to be converted be in a TIAA IRA first.
If you are trying to move money *from* a 403b (as opposed to "from a TIAA IRA"), then you are likely to run into the ERISA need for spousal waiver or stating that you are not married.
That will likely require TIAA and/or Employer approval (or certification as no longer employed.
And if the waiver is needed, that needs to be notarized... for the spousal signature.
So probably "no" to entirely online.
TIAA 403b transfer out process will automatically take you to an online notary ($25) unless you want to print it out and take it elsewhere for the notary.
Or are you trying to move from a 402b to a 403b Roth?
We've not done that, so I don't know.
Moving from a TIRA to a Roth IRA (or elsewhere) can be done entirely online.
