Yes, I've done it and the cost basis transferred. That's required by law, at least for covered securities.... Has anyone ever transferred from Schwab to Vanguard before? Did the cost basis information transfer over?
If you have any noncovered securities, you remain the person responsible for tracking basis, and reporting it on your tax return when you sell such shares.
