It makes sense except for one thing. You can do a backdoor Roth for your DW based off of her and your earned income. Your earned income counts for her.

My DW has been a SAHM. We do a backdoor Roth for her every year based on my earned income.

If we use a spousal IRA to "backdoor" contribute to my wife's roth, do pro-rata rules then apply to DW's tIRA, which would then need to be moved to her 401k?
