Why move to San Diego when I can visit San Diego several times a year whenever I like?

Little Italy has amazing food, but too noisy for me to to live there.

Yes, I plan on retiring in Arizona and visiting CA as often as I like.

I would have to work an extra 10-20 years to stay in California and that doesn't sound very fun. The only places I could afford to buy are 55+ so perhaps I'd move back permanently then.

Until Arizona reformed their tax structure, retiring in California was not a bad deal (if you could afford it). Incomes below $120k/year married (not including Social Security) have a lower than average income tax burden.
