People are getting more SS money than they were before. That money comes from somewhere. Congress did not allocate additional money to pay for it, so it’s going to come out of the SS pot, meaning the pot will be depleted sooner than before.Honest question: Can someone articulate how this is "unfair" to the general population... I cannot see how it's adding money to those who don't have SS income - via either their own record or their spouses.
People were opted out of paying into SS with the understanding that there would be a penalty for doing so. Congress removed the penalty without requiring paying back the missing SS contributions.
Those that paid their full contribution to SS and will see their benefits cut sooner than expected may see that as unfair.
