Agreed. I grew up in a house where the kitchen was a separate room (at one time there was an actual door but it was removed leaving just the doorway). Our home is more the open concept and yes, sound does travel. As do the the smells (albeit GOOD smells, but smell all the same). I'd love to have the kitchen isolated so I don't hear the banging of pots n pans, clanking and running water of dishwashing, range hood fan droning away, etc. But that's just me.don't forget 'open design' means the noise travels throughout house. Sitting in the living room will now be the same as being IN the kitchen.
I'd keep the wall and move the seating as stated above.
