Investing - Theory, News & General • How did you arrive at your asset allocation and what drives those numbers?

What are the ways you arrived at your numbers? What drive that numbers, is it some sort of stats or is it emotional? Part of my curiousity is if you arrived your numbers from an emotional sense or a more systematic path?
Because of the high current savings rate but not predictable health, I prefer to build a “safe portfolio” bucket that will cover expenses for a long while:

- If my health defaults on work, then SSDI and my portfolio will likely cover what I need. (I only have a LTD policy through my employer, and is all I can get; I am not counting on it).
- If employment is bad, then I can survive 7+ years.

Now that I am done with that bucket, my “risky portfolio” bucket is planned to be mostly stocks, some risky bonds, and a little bit of continued speculation (my separate allocation is still alive and larger; the speculative focus is to win reasonably but especially during bad times).
