Personal Investments • Final lap of pre-retirement planning before actual retirement

Even though my handle says Alaska, I have been back in Texas since May. I am teaching a year, and the days are counting down quickly. I found out today, I have a good chance of taking all of my days off!

I have done a pretty good job simplifying several accounts and am down to two-with the exception of a very small acct. that remains a pain in the rear-but I will deal with that. I am 60 years old, and thinking about paying less taxes this time of year, like I do every year.

2 mutual fund companies:

1. Fidelity - two index funds-one S and P-one Nasdaq and some cash all in T-IRA - 130k
2. TRowe - one cash account and a beautiful "bullet-proof" 55/45 fund that is normally closed, but since I have over 250k with TRowe I have access to. Confirmation I picked a jewel of a fund happened today, the first down day. S and P went down about .28, but my fund went down .02! Nice! - about 280k-TIRA.

I get to choose which or both accounts to deposit my hopefully last T-IRA contribution, this year. I went back and forth a bunch and finally decided 2025's income will be six figures hopefully for the last time, and I do not want to blow a chance at a major deduction.

The DW and my income for 2025 will be about 100k, so we are benefiting very much from the last T-IRA contribution.

Dividing by 10 months, I can do $400 per month X both accounts, or $800 into one account. Or I can dump my entire tax refund into both accounts to speed up the process.

My retirement pension check starts September 30. My withholding is set for a low amount for the remaining checks from teaching. Pension pays all required expenses, other than what the DW pays on a normal basis...i.e. utilities. If I had to, I could pay them as well.

I am ready to take a victory lap.

Any preference for the two index funds or the 55/45 solid fund? I plan on using that T-IRA money only as a last-resort emergency fund, or assuming the DW and I actually make it to age 75+, plan to buy a very good SPIA with as much of the money as allowed.
