We were there in 2018, on the Argentina side.

I echo the recommendations for Perito Moreno glacier and hiking in and around El Chalten. The Fitz Roy trail (took an entire day and was pretty rigorous as I recall) that took us to a landing with an unimaginably beautiful view of Mount Fitz Roy. Torres del Paine National Park is a treasure.

We stayed in El Calafate - small town but there was a well equipped hospital, police station, local museums, banks and restaurants. El Chalten has little infrastructure with lots of youth hostels. El Calafate also catered to hikers/tourists so there were plenty of options to join bus/tour transportation to other areas (ie El Chalten).

I wish we had taken a side trip to Ushuaia - you might want to look into that option.

One thing to keep in mind that if you are flying within Argentina, they are strict about weight restrictions for luggage. We saw many people emptying out some items from their suitcases at the check in area to get their luggage approved to go on the plane. So you will want to check if that is still in place, and what the luggage restrictions are.
