I took a bike to Europe many years ago (before there were fees for everything). My only comment is to make sure you pack any tools you need to put the bike back together (preferably in the box with the bike). When I moved to Sweden, I had a bike and 2 checked suitcases. One of my suitcases (the one with the bike tools) went missing for a day. I had no tools to put the pedals back on or turn the handlebars until the missing bag showed up.
