Give both partners an allowance. We did that for many years when we had to budget carefully. And it probably doesn't need to be $4K. Our first allowances were $20 a month. But it's money you don't have to account to your partner for.Hi,
We live in the South so it’s a medium cost of living. We just had a baby back in November and the wife is going to stay at home raising our daughter. We’re both early 40’s so she’s used to being independent since she worked for 20 yrs before having the baby.
I keep a really close eye on my spending so instead of taking the time to scrutinize her expenses too, I figured we would just do an allowance for her at 4k/mo. That way, I don’t have to ask her about every expense and she can save the excess in her savings account. I also cover the health and auto insurance.
I’ve heard your supposed to combine everything but I think it would be stressful to manage her expenses as well as mine and I think it would come off as controlling of me.
I’m curious to see if anyone has any experience with this and how they handled it?
