OP here. Patient discharged. Engaging directly with all parties at an exceptionally proactive hospital worked well. No violence required and no Little Debbie fat pills. The more informed questions we asked the more they engaged and provided honest and thoughtful responses. Specialists even encouraged us to google diagnosed ailments. No online charts but that didn’t hinder us. Being in the room during rounds, which ran from 7am-2pm, was critical. Patient absolutely needed help and second pair of eyes and ears on hand. It was too much for patient and too much for one family member but better with a tag team of four hour shifts.
