Donating to the museums/archive now before I leave is no longer an option, even if I were willing to accept all the negative consequences from such an early divestiture (i.e. the inability to access these documents for my own research, my ability to conserve these items over time in a fashion far exceeding their current capabilities, and dividing the collection). There's a lot of paperwork and bureaucracy involved, and it's not as simple as shipping the things out to them.
I think what I will do is diversify the risk. I will leave some of it in this unit and others with two different friends. That way, I avoid a potential 100% loss of the collection, although perhaps I increase my chances of a partial loss of it (more points of failure). Thank you all.
