Here are simplified formulas. "SS" is social security benefit. "OI" is other income.

               Single               Joint               ------------------   ------------------If SS <         9,000               12,000          OI = 34,000 - SS * 3/34   44,000 - SS * 3/34Otherwise           OI = 28,706 + SS / 2      36,941 + SS / 2
I originally had an incorrect formula for small amounts of SS (< $9K for single and < $12K for joint) in my previous post. I've corrected it there and here. But I'd appreciate it if someone could confirm that it's now correct.
