I would invest according to the expected care. Over longer periods, I think TIPS and SPIAs would probably be more helpful to include than just having cash.I agree with others. If this was my relative, I would advise her to keep it in the money market fund. I had a relative who developed Alzheimer's and needed specialty care. Her husband left her a lot of money when he died. No one in the family knew he had this kind of money. Her son used all the money for her care. Most of her kids, who are older, appreciated that she had this money and was given good care. Her cash can go a long way in providing her care.
