I've used TurboTax for 20+ years and every year it seems to get more thorough and asks more detail to make taxes more foolproof. However I've noticed in the process some aspects have gotten very, very, tedious. Most of the time I just choose what to work on based on the prior year and then add new items/areas. Some times trying to complete things from the "Forms" view doesn't seem to get all the things needed into the various worksheets and I sort of have to complete the interview components involved to make it all work. Overall I'm still satisfied with the product.
I don't know that the IRS can fix what you don't complete. If you don't detail business expenses the IRS will just presume there were none.
