Personal Investments • Could I Be Doing Anything Safer with This Money?

Mutual funds HAVE dipped below $1 in 2008.
To clarify a bit . . .

Money Market Mutual Funds are a subset of Mutual Funds. Most Mutual Funds don't have a set $1 share price, so most Mutual Funds don't have a "buck to break".

And yes, most recently, (and it's a really rare occurrence) one Money Market Mutual Fund (Reserve Primary Fund) did "break the buck" in 2008. Another (Community Bankers U.S. Government Money Market Fund) broke the buck in 1994.

Neither fund had any connection to Vanguard.
