Personal Investments • Thinking of moving my "number" all into cash, market is freaking me out

OP not sure how close you are to retirement, but if it is really close treasury/tips makes sense for a portion of the portfolio. the Real interest on Tips is good compared to historicals. (it was better a month ago).

if you have a cushion that gives you comfort for the next 5 years (or more) of retirement you can always look at that when things go bad.

maybe it's time to relook your allocation as you have learned about yourself. I wouldn't take all the advice here to tell you to ride it out. It makes a difference if you are 60+ and people in their 40s with longer timelines are thinking from their own perspective to ride it out.

Also this board has people with $6 million to 10million and living on $50K a year that would never suffer a day if their portfolio dropped by half. (just look at some of the "can I retire yet" threads") Them saying ride it out may not represent you.

During the covid drop, i pulled 5% off the table into cash. The market immediately bounced back up so that 5% missed the growth but 5 years later i don't notice the loss. Even though it was only 5% it calmed my nerves that at least I did something.

it doesn't have to be all or nothing. My best advice is " you do you" but realize it doesn't have to be a 100% move.
