If you have a morning arrival, from Union Station walk across the street and have breakfast at Lou Mitchells. Walk east on Jackson for a about a mile, and as you're using Amtrak, staying at the Palmer House would be a good central location for exploring and Union Station access. From there you're just two blocks away from the Art Institute and Millennium Park, explore. The trip will be the last week of November and I am open to stays of one day to several. I am still looking at various Amtrak routes to make my decision. My interests are varied: culture, live music, architecture, ethnic eats, art, street life, etc.
The CAC river tours end for the season on Nov 22, primarily due to weather and restricted river operations.
A stroll along north Michigan Av and/or State St can be interesting, especially as the stores will be in Christmas holiday mode.
The River North area has numerous great restaurants and can be a good spot to stop.
The Christkindlmarket will be running at Daley Plaza during this time and is always fun.
If going to the Museum Campus take a Uber as there as the weather can be unpredictable and there can be a lot of walking involved, depending on what you are interested in seeing there.
