So I got another quote from another installer and some more info. $16000 before tax credit for solar panels only. They also say those panels could not be retrofitted to add battery later. When I asked about battery back up system, he gave me a rough estimate of $35,000 (because he would add more solar panels in that situation) before tax credits.
The way he designed the system is that all panels would be on the garage, which is separated from the house by a rolled asphalt overhang.
I would also like to note that my energy company is having a 20% rate hike in 2026. I thought it had already taken effect. Locally we are going through a cycle of being pissed at the energy company and this news was brought back up. Have an acquaintance who owns a restaurant and their energy bill was $7,891 this month.
I also have another insulation company coming on Wednesday to evaluate, so I am looking at other options. I also plan to meet with a loan officer at a credit union I have dealt with when I had my car loan just to see what my rate would be.
Is know many balked at the 8% I saw as the average online. Is there a percentage where this doesn’t look so bad in today’s economy?
