Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Did you pay off your house early but did not need to?

I readily admit that peace of mind was a big part of why I paid off my mortgage early ahead of my retirement. Being a Bogleheads forum member for a number of years now, I've seen many of the previous discussions of paying off a mortgage early. I made the choice with my eyes wide open, knowing I probably was a bit worse off financially. But at the end of the day, even with whatever nominal hit my net worth took, I'm still set for a decent retirement and hopefully leaving behind a significant legacy to provide for my disabled daughter after we're gone.
Part of how I look at the payoff decision is that it was something that will help me stay the course psychologically. I'm comfortable with a higher stock allocation and bigger net worth swings during the ups and down knowing whatever happens I have my house.
