Personal Investments • VTSAX Vs. VTI ? and me :o)

I used VTSAX for many many years, because I had periodic, automated withdrawals made from my checking account directed to my Vanguard account, so I could have $xxx dollars invested fully each month in an automated way. Buying fractional shares of an ETF at that time wasn't possible. (and ETF's didn't even exist yet for much of that time). I still have the VTSAX holding because that's how my funds went into the account and I haven't found it worthwhile to have the holding converted to ETF's. Similarly for VTIAX.

There may be advantages to mutual funds still if you are having automated RMD withdrawals being done from a traditional IRA or systematic withdrawals from a taxable account. I haven't looked into it. I think there are possibly advantages to the mutual fund share class on the decumulation side, depending on your needs.

There is certainly less difference now than there used to be.
